Mollie: So should I go to that gaming store?
Mollie: And Why?
wintermute: Yes. To buy funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: Why do I want funny-shaped dice?
wintermute: Everyone wants funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: How could you not want funny-shaped dice?
TalkingDog: I wonder how many more sentences we can end with "funny-shaped dice."
wintermute: I own many funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: I don't own any funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: I don't see the point (if not for RPGs) to having funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: Among the things wintermute has more of than I do are funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: I have a lot of normal-shaped dice, but no funny-shaped dice.
James: I have one set of funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: I wish I had some funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: Do we all really have nothing better to do than end sentences with "funny-shaped dice?"
wintermute: If you want to generate a random number between 1 and 12 (for example), the best method is to use funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: Well, if d12s count, I suppose, then, that I do own some funny-shaped dice.
James: The path to world peace lies in funny-shaped dice.
James: They kicked me out of the casino for my funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: I would just use 2 different-colored d6's and not bother with the funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: One cannot roll a 1 and still be able to roll a 12 unless one uses funny-shaped dice.
iwpg: One can do so by rolling two d6s, then if the second one is even adding 6 to the first, otherwise not, all with using funny-shaped dice.
iwpg: *without using funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: iwpg is wise in the art of not using funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: Yes, that was my plan to refrain from using funny-shaped dice.
[TalkingDog->Mollie] WE ARE ALL SILLYfunny-shaped dice
[Mollie->TalkingDog] :-P funny-shaped dice.
wintermute: What if you want a number between 1 and 20, then? Funny-shaped dice!
Mollie: You can still exchange d6s for funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: Though it's a little weird, you could roll 4d6-3 and reroll 21s instead of using funny-shaped dice.
iwpg: Roll two dice, called d1 and d2. If d1 = 6, or d2 = 5 or 6, roll again. Otherwise, d1 + 5*(d2-1). iwpg > funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: Similar to iwpg is my method for avoiding the use of funny-shaped dice.
iwpg: TD's method wouldn't give the same probability distribution as real funny-shaped dice.
wintermute: That's far too convoluted, given the availability of funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: I would rather not have such an even distribution, so I won't use funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: However, in my case, the availability of normal-shaped dice is greater than the availability of funny-shaped dice.
iwpg: Aha! We have converted TalkingDog to the dark side of not using funny-shaped dice!
Mollie: /topic Check the SMG for the availability of funny-shaped dice.
wintermute: TD: Surely that depends on the application. In many cases, you want the distributions characteristic of funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: Well, it's not like I often use funny-shaped dice.
* TalkingDog transcribes all this talk about funny-shaped dice.
* Mollie does still not know if she should go to the gaming store and purchase funny-shaped dice.
wintermute: I still say you should go to the gaming store and purchase funny-shaped dice.
TalkingDog: I guess it couldn't hurt to at least own some funny-shaped dice.
wintermute: I think one of my LJ interests is "funny-shaped dice".
wintermute: lju wmute
TalkingDog: The d12 feels nice in my hand and is my favorite of all the funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: >:-| at wintermute for not mentioning funny-shaped dice.
wintermute: Stupid focus :(. Still: http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=funny+shaped+dice
* Ciaran doesn't have any funny-shaped dice. :(
Mollie: Still no-one has given me a good reason to purchase funny-shaped dice...
TalkingDog: Because they're funny-shaped dice!
wintermute: You need a reason to purchase funny-shaped dice?
wintermute: God smiles upon people who own funny-shaped dice.
Mollie: I have to go now; maybe I will later purchase some funny-shaped dice.
Mollie has left.
wintermute: BYE!
